KidsTek Partners
Girls Incorporated of Metro Denver
Girls Inc. is an affiliate of the national Girls Incorporated program, which is dedicated to inspiring all girls to be "strong, smart, and bold." In particular, Girls Inc. provides programs to girls in high-risk, underserved areas.
KidsTek launched at Girls, Inc. in September 2005, offering a weekly teen class, and computer classes for elementary-aged participants twice per week. By the end of the school year, KidsTek reached an estimated 100 new girls, aged 6-14. In October 2005, we interviewed some of these participants. Their testimonials speak not only to their varying interests (from artist to computer programmer), but to their growing awareness and interest in technology and its utilization.
Today, KidsTek continues to offer twice-weekly classes to elementary-aged girls. Girls Inc participants have learned about Internet literacy and online safety, how to format text and images using programs such as Microsoft Word and Publisher, how to create engaging presentations using PowerPoint, and how to design web pages and work with HTML code.
