KidsTek’s mission is to increase the technology literacy of Colorado’s disadvantaged children by providing tuition-free after school computer skills classes.
KidsTek is seeking instructional staff for its 2010-2011 school year programs.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Technology Instructor will lead and coordinate all computer lab activities including lesson preparation and instruction. Programs are held at various local schools using their existing computer equipment.
Instruction includes preparing and teaching a progressively advanced computer skills curriculum through fun class projects. These projects use the power of the Internet, the most commonly used productivity software, and multimedia applications that engage students with the possibilities of using technology to communicate their ideas.
REQUIREMENTS
KidsTek is seeking candidates that have a background in working with diverse groups of children, either in educational or recreational settings; a background in education and/or technology; and computer skills, including proficiency with the most common productivity software and online activities.
Preferred: Candidates with solid classroom management skills and experience working with teen-aged students. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment that demands patience, flexibility, creativity and independence.
The position will be responsible for teaching the technology elective during the last period of the school day at Manual High School. The course is based on Sun/Oracle software platforms including introductions to Open Office, Open Solaris and System Administration certification. While candidates do not need to be UNIX experts, they will need to have at least a rudimentary understanding of UNIX and be motivated to learn. Instructor will receive paid Sun Associates System Administrator Training and the opportunity to receive industry certification and on-going instructional support by Sun/Oracle.
LOCATION Manual High School in Denver
HOURS
• Up to 16 hours per week during program sessions
• Classes are held afternoons on weekdays
• Orientation and training begins mid-August
• Classes begin with the new school year
