COMPASS Programs at Aurora Public Schools

The City of Aurora's Office of Youth Development Division, in partnership with Aurora Public Schools, offer the COMPASS after-school programs. COMPASS programs are funded by a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. COMPASS is also funded by local Aurora foundations and City of Aurora grants. KidsTek began offering after school programs through COMPASS at West Middle School beginning with the 2006-2007 school year. KidsTek offers computer classes following the COMPASS schedule of three 9-week sessions held during the school year.

As of the 2008-2009 school year, KidsTek expanded to serve all the COMPASS program sites within Aurora Public Schools including:

  • Elementary Schools: Fletcher, Vaughn
  • Middle Schools: East, West, North, South
  • Central High School

At the elementary schools, KidsTek has offered projects using PowerPoint and Windows Movie Maker.  KidsTek has also taught these younger students about Internet searching and Internet safety.

At COMPASS middle schools, students have learned about video game design, digital animation, web page design and robotics.

And, at Aurora Central High School, KidsTek has partnered with the Jared Polis Foundation to teach about computer hardware while giving students the opportunity to earn and keep their own personal computers.
